: WHO IS JESUS?

We all know His name, but who is He? Jesus walked this earth 2000 years ago in fulfillment of many Bible prophesies. He is the Son of God. He proclaimed the “Good News” and performed many miracles to prove He had the authority to teach that God sees and judges the heart. His mission was to give Himself as the only true sacrifice for the forgiveness of sin. What man could not do through their own good works of righteousness, the perfect Son of God did once for all.

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life.

John 3:16 (NASB)

His teaching challenged the corrupt authorities of His day. It threatened the power they had over the people so they put Jesus to death. They reasoned many would believe in Jesus as God’s Son (the Messiah) and make Him King. This was a threat to them and the Roman occupiers. If the people made Him King, the Romans would remove the Jewish authorities from power and destroy their nation. They took counsel and decided to it was better for Jesus to die than their whole nation to perish (John 11:46 – 50).

This was prophetic. The Jewish people were preparing to practice an annual celebration in remembrance of the Passover. The Passover was the final but most horrific plague when they were slaves in Egypt. All the firstborn would die unless they obeyed God by painting their doorposts with the blood of a lamb. This plague finally drove Pharaoh to let the Jewish people go free (until his pride came back).

Jesus was condemned to die through Roman crucifixion. He is this “Lamb of God” represented by the Passover and willingly shed his blood out of for love of us. He did this so that we would not perish in the plague of our sins.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Was this the end? No! The grave could not hold Him! Jesus rose the third day leaving an empty tomb. He was seen by over 500 people and then ascended into Heaven a few weeks later. Once back in heaven, He sent us the Holy Spirit so that He can live in us. He is still at work and living today through those who have put their faith and trust in Him. Yes! He can live in your heart too!

Dear friend, Jesus loves you. He wants to come in to your heart and give you abundant life. He said,

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.”

Revelation 3:20 (NASB)

All He requests is that we acknowledge we have sinned against Him and want to turn from our sins and follow Him. He knows we are unable to clean up the mess we have made of our lives. If you are like me, you tried everything you could think of to live a better life, but the world’s wisdom always fails. Jesus has been patiently waiting at the door of your heart all this time. My friend, do you hear Him knocking? Will you open the door to Him today? Don’t worry about the mess you have been trying to clean up… He knows. He will free you of your burden of sin and give you new life and strength as you walk with Him and study His word: the Bible.
